Alabama Baptist Historical Commission
An entity of the Alabama Baptist State Convention

Much of the history of a church and its people is recorded on the pages of church records. Regardless of congregation size, every church should preserve its historical documents in the best possible way--by microfilming these valuable records.

The Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, in cooperation with the Samford University Library, provides a simple and efficient microfilm procedure for Alabama Baptist State Convention churches, associations, state convention, and convention entities.  Pick up and return of your records is also available.  Microfilming and transportation of records are provided without charge.

Microfilming ensures that a copy of the church records will be available if the originals are ever destroyed by fire, flood, wind, or time, and provides a copy of church records for research purposes.

Microfilming is done at the Samford University Library Microfilm Department, the only certified microfilm laboratory in Alabama. The length of time it takes for the filming process varies based on the amount and organization of the material submitted.

Some churches choose to entrust their original records to the Alabama Baptist Historical Collection for custody in the Special Collection Department. This can be discussed by contacting Jennifer Taylor, Special Collection Chair, at 205-726-2749.
